What are hip dermals?

Hip dermals are a form of microdermal implant, which is a type of body modification done on the dermal layer of the skin. A dermal piercing involves anchoring the base of a piece of jewelry under the skin so that a top jewel can be displayed for aesthetic appeal.
Dermal piercings are a permanent modification. The anchor itself stays constant, but the top of the jewelry can be changed to jewelry of different color, pattern or stone, depending on the wishes of the wearer. The implant must be left to heal for the first three to six months following piercing to prevent infection and damage.
