What is scalp dermatitis?

Scalp dermatitis is a skin condition referred to as seborrheic dermatitis, according to Mayo Clinic. Dandruff, red skin and flaky skin patches are some of the symptoms associated with this condition.
Seborrheic dermatitis can also affect someone’s face, chest and back. It’s unclear the cause of seborrheic dermatitis, as of 2015, but it has been attributed to an inflammatory response to psoriasis or an abnormal reaction to seasonal changes, claims Mayo Clinic. There is no cure for seborrheic dermatitis. Therefore, it is recommended that patients use medicated shampoos that are hydrocortisone-based. As an alternative, patients should try anti-fungal shampoo with stronger scalp treatments.
