What is the history of Gorham silver products?

Gorham silver was founded in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1831 by master craftsman Jabez Gorham and his partner, Henry L. Webster. The company grew to be very influential for the next 100 years.

When Gorham silver was first founded, the company's main product was silver spoons, but it also produced jewelry, combs, thimbles and other small items. In 1847, Jabez Gorham retired and was succeeded by his son, John Gorham, who improved the production process, created new designs and expanded the company's line of products. Over the years, the Gorham Manufacturing Company has made trophies for the Indianapolis 500, the Davis Cup for tennis and the America's Cup for yachting.
