What is the history of Colgate toothpaste?
By Forinfos - 06/05/2026 - 0 comments
Colgate toothpaste hit the market in 1873 and was presented for sale to the public in jars. Colgate moved to the tubed version of its toothpaste in the 1890s.
The ingredients of the toothpaste has changed since it was first produced by the company. When it first started being produced the toothpaste was made with soap. As science developed and dentistry professionals discovered flaws in the soap and new ways of helping keep teeth healthy it began to change. Soap was replaced with sodium lauryl sulfate, which is still used as of 2014. Fluoride was also added to the mix to help prevent tooth decay. The amount of abrasives was reduced over the years as well to help prevent damage from overzealous brushing.
