Who invented the Punnett square?

The Punnett square was invented by and named after British geneticist Reginald Punnett. It is a tool used by geneticists to determine the probability of a specific genotype, or trait, in offspring.

Reginald Punnett was born in 1875 in Kent, England, and was educated at Clifton College. In 1905 Reginald published the book "Mendelism," which is sometimes said to be the very first book written on genetics. Reginald co-founded another book, the "Journal of Genetics," with English geneticist William Bateson in 1910. Two years later, Reginald Punnett was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society, a learned society of science.
