How many Allied casualties were there on D-Day?

No accurate records of causalities for the Allied troops exist for D-Day. Too much chaos and other circumstances made keeping records impossible on that date. Causalities refer to the number of troops lost to death, injury, and capture, as well as those men who were declared missing.

Traditional estimates of causalities list the figures at approximately 10,000 with 2,500 of those numbers accounted for by soldiers who lost their lives. In the 21st century, new numbers reflect a much higher death toll of 4,413 Allied soldiers. Out of these deaths, 2,499 were American troops with the remaining 1,914 deaths coming from the other Allied nations, such as France and England.
