The more commonly known belligerents were the United States, Great Britain, France, the Soviet Union, Germany, China and Japan. However, soldiers from countries like Canada, Albania, Greece, the Dutch East Indies, South Africa, Australia, Ethiopia, Brazil and India were involved in World War II. Many countries were members of the British Commonwealth and were allied with Great Britain. While sources disagree, the total number of civilian casualties is estimated to be 45 million.
