The Third Republic of the Philippines was the period between the recognition of the country's independence in 1946 and the end of Diosdado Macapagal's presidency in 1965. During this period, the country had five administrations.
The Republic of the Philippines was officially formed on July 4, 1946, when the United States formally recognized the independence of the country. The road to independence had started in 1916, when the U.S. pledged the eventual recognition of independence by the Jones Law. The first president of the Third Republic was Manuel Roxas, who was followed by Elpidio Quirino in 1948, Ramon Magsaysay in 1953, Carlos P. Garcia in 1957 and Diosdado Macapagal in 1961.
