Who won the Battle of Shiloh?

Union Forces under general Grant won the Battle of Shiloh after the Confederate forces were forced to retreat to Corinth. The battle was fought between April 6 and April 7, 1862. The battle started after a surprise attack by the Confederates on the Union army in southwestern Tennessee.

The Battle of Shiloh is considered to be one of the major battles during the early stages of the American Civil War. The battle resulted in a combined casualty count of over 23,000, with 13,000 coming from the victorious Union forces. General Albert Sidney Johnston led the Confederate forces during this battle.
