What does "E3" stand for?

E3, which has been held each year at the Los Angeles Convention Center since its inception in 1995, stands for "Electronic Entertainment Expo." It is the longest-running video game expo in the world and routinely features video game console debuts, game sneak peeks and hundreds of playable demos.

E3 is not open to the public, but is instead reserved for industry professionals, including game designers, corporate representatives and game journalists. In 2014, nearly 50,000 attendees tried out games, sat in on technical presentations and interviewed the game designers themselves. While other trade shows receive more attendees, E3 remains the preeminent source for the most major announcements in the video game industry.
