The National Cancer Institute explains that Hodgkin lymphoma is a cancer of the immune system. Classical Hodgkin lymphoma is diagnosed by the presence of Reed-Sternberg cells in the lymph nodes. Rare Hodgkin lymphoma is diagnosed by the presence of lymphocyte-predominant cells.
The National Cancer Institute lists the symptoms of Hodgkin lymphoma as enlargement of the lymph nodes, spleen or other immune tissue, fever, weight loss, fatigue, and night sweats. Diagnosis is usually via a lymph node biopsy, a CT or PET scan, or a bone marrow biopsy. Treatment options for Hodgkin lymphoma include chemotherapy, targeted therapy, radiation therapy and a stem cell transplant.
