What holy book do Hindus read?

The main religious texts of Hinduism are the Vedas, Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranas. The Mahabharata is the longest Indian epic and includes the Bhagavad Gita.

The Hindu texts can be divided into two groupings: the Shruti and the Smriti, in which the Vedas are part of the Shruti, and the remaining three texts constitute the Smriti. The Shruti contains 4 Vedas and 108 Upanishads, each dealing with a different aspect of universal truth. Both the Shruti and the Smriti are collectively called the Shastras. In addition to studying these texts, Hindus worship at temples and in their own personal households.
