Consumer Reports advises against purchasing used Honda Civic Hybrids due to the high failure rates of the batteries, especially as the vehicles accumulate mileage. The organization specifically mentions 2009 and 2010 vehicles as models to avoid. The 2003 to 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid batteries fared a little better but still have a failure rate in excess of 12 percent.
