Where do horned lizards live?

Horned lizards primarily live in the southwest regions of North America. They can be found between southern Canada and Guatemala, but their habitats are usually scrub deserts, arid environments and oak-pine woodlands.

There are 13 species of horned lizards in North America, and many are disappearing in the wild due to loss of habitat and the invasion of exotic species that disrupt the food chain. They are also being overly harvested for use as pets. Horned lizards are cold-blooded and rely on their environment to control their body temperature. They spend many hours a day in the sun to keep their body temperatures high.
