Are hospital bed donations tax deductible?

Donations of hospital beds and other types of medical equipment are tax deductible. Charities such as Goodwill collect donations of hospital beds, refurbish them and then give or sell them to people in need. The Salvation Army, churches, nursing homes and community centers may also accept such donations.
Equipment such as wheelchairs and shower benches may also be accepted. Call ahead to confirm that an organization accepts medical equipment before reaching the drop-off center or arranging pick-up.
When making a donation, ask the organization for a receipt to document the value of the donation to the IRS if asked. Most organizations list a fair market value for the item that can be deducted along with your other charitable contributions when figuring your tax obligation.
