Italian long hot peppers have between 100 and 1,000 Scoville heat units, making them three to 80 times milder than jalapeño peppers. The peppers have a mild, sweet flavor, and cooks often serve them roasted or fried as side dishes or as toppings for sandwiches.
By comparison, the jalapeño pepper has 2,500 to 8,000 Scoville heat units. The hottest pepper is the Carolina Reaper, a pepper strain with 1.4 to 2.2 million Scoville heat units. Other hot peppers include the Trinidad Scorpion Chocolate pepper, with 1.2 to 2 million Scoville heat units, and the Dorset Naga pepper, with 1 to 1.5 million Scoville heat units.
