What does a hot tub ozonator do?

A hot tub ozonator is an ozone water purifier that works by generating and injecting ozone gas into hot tub water. The ozone acts as a sanitizer and destroys most of the bacteria and viruses present.

Ozone generators contain either an ultraviolet light bulb or an electronic corona discharge device that converts oxygen to ozone. Ozone water purification is 3,000 times more powerful than ordinary water sanitizers and reduces the amount of chemicals needed to suppress bacteria. Ozone also breaks down body oils, keeping the water clear and fresh longer than water treated with chemicals, such as bromine or chlorine. Fewer chemicals added reduces the chemical odor from the hot tub, resulting in less skin, nasal and eye irritation.
