What household products can you use to clean your jewelry?

Some common household products that help to clean jewelry include aluminum foil, Alka-Seltzer, ketchup and toothpaste. Some others are beer, club soda, ammonia and baking soda.

A quick way to get metal jewelry shiny and clean is to drop it into a cup with Alka-Seltzer. This is safe for most types of jewelry. Aluminum foil is best used on silver jewelry. To use this method, line a bowl with foil, and fill it with hot water and bleach-free powdered laundry detergent. Soak jewelry items in the solution, rinse and let them dry. Gemstones, including emeralds, rubies, sapphires and diamonds, can get clean and shiny with club soda. Just soak them in a cup of club soda overnight, rinse and let dry.
