Hurricanes are most likely to hit the United States on the Atlantic seaboard. As of the 2013 season, the most common areas for a hurricane to make landfall include Cape Hatteras, NC, Moorehead City, NC and Wilmington, NC. Next are Boca Raton, Fl and Miami, FL and finally Savannah, Ga.
Outside of the United States, Atlantic Ocean hurricanes frequently hit Grand Bahama Island, Great Abaco Island and Andros Island in the Bahamas. When Pacific Ocean hurricanes make landfall, they generally hit south of the U.S. border, such as in Honduras or Nicaragua. While hurricane force storms land in other parts of the world, they are often referred to as either cyclones or typhoons.
