Hutchins, Texas, is situated along the South Pacific Central Railroad in Dallas County. Hutchins is approximately 9 miles from the city of Dallas. Hutchins is bordered by the city of Lancaster to the southwest, Wilmer to the south and the Trinity River to the east.
Hutchins covers an area of about 9 square miles, and it has an elevation of 466 feet above sea level. The city had a population estimated to be around 5,300 people as of 2010. The area of the city was first inhabited around 1860 and was named after the railroad developer William J. Hutchins, who served as the president and manager of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad. The city of Hutchins was officially incorporated in 1945.
