Why is hybrid seed so expensive to produce?
By Forinfos - 28/06/2025 - 0 comments
Hybrid seeds are expensive because the company that produces them spends a lot of money on research and development that often takes years to accomplish. The yield of hybrid seeds is also significantly higher than original seeds.
Original or parent seeds undergo a process of trial and error and are placed in plant trials. If the trials are not successful in the first attempt, the breeder or seed company tries again until the hybrid seeds meet the desired objective. Before the seeds reach the consumer, they are checked and rechecked a number of times, which ultimately results in a healthy, well-bred plant despite the expensive cost.
