Does hydrogen peroxide treatment work?

Hydrogen peroxide treatment to minor cuts, scrapes and sores does work in clearing the affected area of dead skin and facilitating the body's natural healing process, according to WebMD. However, hydrogen peroxide is only a mild antiseptic and should not be used as exclusive treatment or for major injuries.
When hydrogen peroxide is applied to an affected area, it begins releasing oxygen, which causes the area to foam, explains WebMD. This foam removes dead skin and cleans the wound. Hydrogen peroxide isn't for use on animal bites, burns or serious wounds.
Hydrogen peroxide also works as a mouth rinse, states WebMD, as it's effective treatment for gingivitis and canker sores.
