Does Ibuprofen thin blood?

Ibuprofen does thin the blood, in that it has antiplatelet properties. This means that it inhibits blood coagulation, such that blood continues to flow when it should condense and stop. Even when an individual consumes ibuprofen, blood eventually coagulates; the process simply takes longer.

Ibuprofen does not cause blood thinning to the extent that aspirin does. Its blood thinning effect also does not last as long, typically up to 6 hours maximum. Advil and Motrin are the most commonly known pain relievers containing ibuprofen. These drugs are considered NSAIDs, or Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. Like aspirin, many NSAIDs inhibit inflammation, while also causing fewer gastrointestinal problems.
