According to WebMD, Icy Hot is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Small amounts of the substance may be absorbed into the system, even though Icy Hot is used topically.
Icy Hot is a topical heat rub which works by stimulating nerve receptors in the skin to make the person using it feel the sensations of cold and heat, thus relieving various muscle and arthritic pains, according to Wikipedia.
Web MD also recommends against use of Icy Hot while nursing, since oral salicylates may be absorbed despite the topical use, increasing the risk of Reye's syndrome in the nursing child.
