Some ideas for scavenger hunt items include toys like yo-yos or hula hoops, stationery like paper clips and staples, musical instruments like tambourines and natural items such as leaves from a specific tree, pine cones and sea shells. Scavenger hunt items tend to range in their difficulty of procurement, or at least in the effort required, often with an according number of points assigned to each.

For example, an empty toilet roll might be very easy to get, and could therefore be assigned the lowest point value. However, finding a live person who is willing to have their picture taken, especially one with very specific characteristics such as baldness and brown shoes, might be considerably harder. Such "items" can be awarded the highest number of points.
