Some ideas for a student's academic goals are striving to have a stated overall grade-point average, wanting a specific grade in a certain class or taking a course load that meets the student's educational and career objectives. When setting goals, it is important to make a plan that states how the goals can be achieved.

For example, it is not enough for a student to want to get an A in his or her calculus class. He or she needs to decide what smaller goals must be met to make the big goal a reality.
