The Ganges River is 1,569 miles long and runs through northern India. It begins in Uttarakhand, India and empties into the Bay of Bengal after running through the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. In addition to its religious significance, the river is an important source of water to residents. Other important rivers in India include the Yamuna River, the Sarasvati River, the Narmada River, the Kshipra River, the Godavari River and the Kaveri River.
