What is the most important cost of British rule on India for the Imperialists?

Imperialism involves using many means, including military force, to extend the influence and power of a country through colonization. There is both regressive imperialism and progressive imperialism. With the regressive type, there is unequivocal exploitation, pure conquest and extermination of people who the settlers deem undesirable. The progressive type is more humane and it promotes the spread of civilization to societies to help improve culture and living standards in conquered territories.
