How do you increase the alkalinity of your swimming pool using sodium bicarbonate?

Increase the alkalinity of a swimming pool by adding 1.4 pounds of sodium bicarbonate for every 10,000 gallons of water contained in the pool. This addition raises the total alkalinity of the pool by about 10 parts per million.
The suggested alkalinity of a pool should be between 80 to 150 parts per million. Check the alkalinity before adding sodium bicarbonate, also known as baking soda, to the pool. Once the sodium bicarbonate is added, allow it to mix with the pool water for an hour before retesting. If the alkalinity is still below the desired level, repeat the process.
