When do Indian runner ducks start laying eggs?
By Forinfos - 30/08/2025 - 0 comments
Indian runner ducks begin laying their eggs as early as February. The birds continue laying through August, though younger birds may lay in the autumn months, according to Domestic Waterfowl UK.
The eggs of wild Indian runner ducks tend to be light green in color, while the eggs of most domestics are greenish-blue or white. Black runners may produce dark-colored eggs early in the season and lighter eggs later on. Egg color is also affected by plumage and habitat, with eggs laid in holes or caves often lighter than those laid in vegetation. Pure breeds lay between 180 to 220 eggs per year, while Harlequin and Campbell breeds lay as many as 260 to 300.
