What is an inequality graph?

An inequality graph is a graph on which every point within the region plotted is a solution to the inequality. A linear inequality includes everything on one side of a specific line on a graph.

To plot inequalities, it is important to have a solid understanding of graphing line equations in slope intercept form. The process of graphing inequalities contains three steps:

  1. Rearrange the equation so "y" is the only thing on the left
  2. Plot the "y =" line with a solid line for y ≤ or y ≥, or a dashed line for y
  3. Shade above the line for "greater than," whether y > or y ≥ , or below the line for "less than," whether y

All points within the shaded area express correct answers to the equation
