What is a linear inequality equation?

A linear inequality is similar to a linear equation; however, where a linear equation has an equals sign, a linear inequality uses an inequality symbol. Inequality symbols include > (greater than), < (less than), ≤ (less than or equal to), ≥ (greater than or equal to) and ≠(not equal to).
Solving linear inequalities is similar to solving linear equations. If the linear inequality equation is "x + 4 < 0," it can be treated similarly as if the equation was "x + 4 = 0." It is possible to simply subtract 4 from both sides of the equation, which would give the answer "x < -4."
