Capital One 360, which has taken over ING Direct accounts, states that deposits to its personal savings accounts are insured by the FDIC. Accounts insured by the FDIC include 360 Savings and Kids Savings Accounts.
Deposits to single savings accounts are insured under the FDIC up to $250,000 at one banking institution for all accounts combined, according to the FDIC. For a joint account owned by two or more people, the FDIC insures up to $250,000 for each person or up to $500,000 combined. Each bank registered with the FDIC has the same insurance protection, but different accounts at the same bank aren't insured for more than the total allowed.
