Fragrance and mineral oil are the only ingredients in baby oil. Mineral oil is a highly refined ingredient that is regulated by the FDA. Mineral oil has received scrutiny because it is derived from petroleum.

Mineral oil has been widely reported as an unsafe ingredient that causes cancer, contributes to premature aging and clogs pores. However, there is no evidence to substantiate the claims.

Johnson & Johnson is the most well-known manufacturer of baby oil. The company states that using baby oil helps the skin retain 10 times more moisture. Baby oil is for external use only and is dangerous if swallowed or inhaled.
