Some of the ingredients that are found in Dawn dish soap include methylisothiazolinone, sd alcohol, sodium chloride, sodium laureth sulfate and magnesium chloride. The ingredients vary slightly among the different varieties of Dawn dishwashing soap.
Over the years, there has been an increase in concern over the ingredients that make up dish soap because they are deposited back into the water after they have been used.
Methylisothiazolinone causes acute water toxicity and can also be a cause of skin irritation. Sodium laureth sulfate is known to cause chronic water toxicity, cancer, damage to vision and issues with the endocrine system. Fragrances in Dawn soap are also known to cause biodegradation.
