Before installing an electrical socket, you need to turn off the power to the circuit through main fuse panel of your house. All you need for the install is a slotted screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, needle nose pliers, a wire stripper and a voltage tester.
Remove the old socket
Take off the plate to the socket by removing the screws that hold it in place. Remove the screws that hold the socket to the wall. Pull the switch out of the wall and take note of how it's wired by either writing it down or taking a picture.
Wire the new socket
Remove the old wires by loosening each terminal and pulling them off. Strip about 1/2 inch of insulation off the new wires and reconnect them in the exact configuration they were before. Be sure to loop the uncovered wire around the terminal screws before tightening them.
Install the socket and test
Carefully place the new socket back in the receptacle and attach it with the screws. Make sure that the outlet is in the proper orientation and not upside down. Replace the new cover. Turn power back on through the main panel, and test the outlet with the voltage tester.
