To install a plumbing pressure regulator, choose an appropriate regulator, locate the control valve pipes, turn off the water, disconnect the pipes and install the regulator. Next, tighten the pipes, fill in the space and turn the water source back on.
Run through the following steps to install a pressure regulator in a plumbing system.
- Choose an appropriate pressure regulator
- Locate the control valve pipes
- Turn off the water
- Cut the pipes
- Install the pressure regulator
- Tighten the pipes
- Fill in the ground
- Turn on the water
- Test the pressure
To help determine the ideal pressure regulator, hook up a pressure gauge to the water supply valve to determine the existing water pressure. Basic regulators are usually ideal for first-time users.
The control valve pipes are usually located underground near the water meter. Dig out the area under the meter to find the valves and pipes.
Turn off the water source, drain the pipes and disconnect the pipes from the water source.
Cut out a section of pipe large enough to accommodate the pressure regulator using a tube cutter or saw.
Screw the pressure regulator onto the pipes or use a soldering iron to fuse the pipes to the device.
Re-connect the pipes to the water supply and make sure they are tight.
Fill in the hole in the ground and cover the pipes.
Turn the water back on.
Use a pressure gauge to test the water pressure and ensure that it is not too high.
