The instrument used to measure force is called a dynamometer. A dynamometer is capable of measuring different kinds of force such as mechanical force and muscular force.
These instruments are used for a wide range of tasks including measuring the power of an engine, measuring the grip strength of a person and studying combustion. Physical therapists and engineers are among the professionals that utilize dynomometers in their work.
There are several kinds of dynomometers such as dry friction dynomometers, Eddy current dynomometers and hydraulic dynomometers. The word dynamometer comes from the French word 'dynamis' meaning power and 'metre' meaning meter. A similar instrument is the anemometer.
