The primary instruments used in tango music include string instruments, bandoneons and the piano. African music, the Italian violin, the string bass, the Spanish guitar and the classical piano can all be used for tango music.
One of the most influential instruments in tango music is the bandoneon. This instrument is a concertina, and it looks like an accordion without the small keyboard component. There are buttons on the sides that someone presses as they pull or push out the folding component of the instrument. The bandoneon is the primary instrument in tango orchestra, and it produces a sound that is sensual and somber.
