The Bonneville Salt Flats is a salt pan managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It is located in Tooele County in northwestern Utah and is part of the Great Salt Lake Desert.

The Bonneville Salt Flats was named after Benjamin Bonneville, a U.S Army officer who explored the region in the 1830s. It covers an area of 40 square miles, as of 2015. Many movies have been filmed in the region, including "The Tree of Life," "Top Gear" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." In 2004, a capsule from the Stardust spacecraft was released for landing in the Bonneville Salt Flats.
