What does the International Plumbing Code cover?

The International Plumbing Code covers the minimum requirements for the function and design of plumbing systems. It also creates the rules for accepting new plumbing technologies.

Some of the specific sections the code include faucets and fixtures, water heaters, sanitary drainage, storm drainage and structural safety. Other sections include water supply and distribution and a plumbing permit fee schedule.

The International Code Council, which is located in Washington, D.C., updates the International Plumbing Code on a three-year cycle. It is the most commonly referred to code in the United States and several other countries. Implementation of the code helps improve public health and safety.
