According to The Washington Post, Arch West invented Doritos, which were first sold in 1966. West was 97 years old when he died on Sept. 20, 2011 in Dallas, Texas.
The Washington Post states that West was a marketing vice president at Frito-Lay when he invented Doritos. The snack's initial national release occurred two years after West bought his first bag of toasted tortillas in Southern California and was inspired to create Doritos. Doritos eventually became one of the best-selling products under the Frito-Lay banner. Doritos are available in 20 countries worldwide. In 2010, global sales of Doritos were at almost $5 billion.
