There are no inventors of pajamas recorded as of 2014. Pajamas as a garment were first adopted in the western world in 1870, and they were modelled on traditional Persian harem pants. The word "pajamas" has its roots in the Persian word "pyjama," which means "leg garment."
Pajamas were first worn by men. By the 1890s, they had replaced traditional night shirts. In the 1930s, pajamas had become part of the social culture and was regarded as elegant evening attire. Pajamas of the early 20th century were made using cotton or silk. Women adopted the pajamas slightly slower than men.
