Who invented the radio?

The invention of the radio was long credited to Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi, but evidence shows that Nikola Tesla patented radio technology before Marconi. Tesla is now credited with inventing the radio.

The Scottish physicist James Clerk Maxwell was the first to predict the existence of radio waves in the 1860s. Others, such as Marconi and Tesla, developed the transmitters and receivers that made radio possible. Radio wasn't originally conceived as an entertainment medium. Its purpose was for ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communications using Morse code. At the turn of the 20th century, Marconi succeeded in sending a radio transmission across the Atlantic Ocean.
