Who invented vinegar?

It is believed that vinegar was discovered by the Sumerians in 5000 B.C. The Sumerians used vinegar to preserve food, to pickle food and as a cleaning agent.

It is also believed that Helen of Troy used vinegar as a relaxation treatment and bathed in the ingredient. Members of Caesar's army also drank vinegar as a beverage, according to Vinegar Works Wonders. By 2000 B.C., the production of vinegar became a significant commercial industry since making vinegar at home was largely becoming a thing of the past. In 400 B.C., Hippocrates prescribed vinegar to cure a number of ailments, and in World War I, vinegar was used to treat the wounds of soldiers.
