An IRS 1040 Form is one of the official forms that taxpayers in the United States can use to file annual income tax returns, according to TurboTax. There are three versions of this form: 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ, reports the Internal Revenue Service.
To complete a 1040, the taxpayer completes fields regarding personal and contact information, income, deductions and exemptions, explains TurboTax. Filers can choose between taking the standard deduction or itemizing their deductions.
The 1040EZ is the simplest form, but it can only be used by filers who take the standard deduction and do not claim any income adjustments or tax credits except the Earned Income Credit, according to the Internal Revenue Service.
