Does the IRS have a 24-hour contact method?

The IRS has a 24-hour contact method for some purposes as of 2015, states the agency. Taxpayers can call the automated refund hotline, the electronic federal tax payment system, and teletax numbers any time. Taxpayers also can use the IRS website for many transactions at any time.
IRS phone numbers for services such as tax help, forms and publications, and tax exemptions follow general daytime hours, as the IRS website shows. The agency recommends using IRS.gov to make payments, check on refunds, get a transcript, and set up a payment plan, among other reasons. Doing so eliminates having to call or wait in line.
