Isometric piping drawings are used to portray pipe systems in an isometric diagram that can offer depth, length and width in a single view, making it easier to read and understand. The drawings are usually drawn on paper with preprinted 60-degree, equilateral triangles.

Isometric piping drawings are not drawn to scale, and are usually adapted from plan and elevation drawings. They are usually the drawings that help installation contractors the most, and also benefit the designers and manufacturers of a system greatly. Each drawing's symbols represent fittings, flanges and valves that are changed in order to scale it to the isometric grid.
