Isotonic training is a method of exercise used when contracting muscles lift an object over a specific range of motion. It is used to both strengthen muscles and increase flexibility in joints.
Isotonic training usually involves equipment such as weights, resistance bands or medicine balls to implement the motions required. However, it can be also be executed by using just body weight. There are two actions that occur with isotonic training. The first is called concentric which takes place when the weight is first raised to the designated position. The second movement is called eccentric, and occurs when the weight is lowered back to the original position.
