Who was the Italian leader during World War I?

Vittorio Emanuele Orlando was an Italian statesman and the prime minister of Italy during the final years of World War I. He was born on May 19, 1860, in Palermo, Italy, and died on December 1, 1952, in Rome.

After the war, Orlando represented his country at the Versailles Peace Settlement, wherein he failed to obtain his goal of having control over certain territories formerly under Austria. In particular, he ran up against U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. Because of this, he resigned from his office in June 1919. Francesco Nitti succeeded him as prime minister. Later on, in 1948, he was a candidate for the republic's presidency, but he was defeated by Luigi Einaudi.
